Robert Rems has been involved in real estate almost his entire life. As a child growing up in northern New Jersey, he was fascinated by trips to Manhattan, and read the Sunday New York Times real estate section religiously. Coops and condos were particular objects of interest, and Robert determined at a young age that he would live in Manhattan and buy a coop as soon as possible. He purchased his first coop on West End Avenue at the tender age of 24, subsequently moving to a loft in the Union Square area, then back to West End Avenue. He is currently living in Greenwich Village.

Robert has served on the board of several coops, one of them as president, has worked for a mortgage brokerage, and currently manages an Upper West Side rental building. As a long-time Manhattan resident, living both uptown and downtown, buying and selling both his personal residences and various investment properties, Robert has developed a wealth of knowledge about all types of Manhattan real estate. He has represented buyers and sellers in all Manhattan neighborhoods, and has also expanded his knowledge base to the outer boroughs, having handled sales in Brooklyn and Riverdale. He currently owns two residences and several rental properties.

Robert is an expert at pricing listings and marketing properties to produce the best results for sellers. Just as important is his ability to listen to buyers and to focus on the most suitable properties for their needs. A dedicated guide, he takes true delight in helping people find their dream home, and strives to make the process pleasant and stress-free.

With an educational background in mathematics and computer science (graduate of Rutgers University) he spent many years as a programmer, systems analyst, and project leader, including more than ten years as a consultant to Goldman Sachs.

Robert’s other interests include travel, food and restaurants, and antiques. He has been a dealer in 19th Century Japanese Imari pottery and its British adaptations.

Testimonials

I liked working with Robert because he was responsive to my calls and emails and because he didn’t give up on me when I was trying to buy my first place which at times seemed like it would be impossible. He also took my tight timeline seriously and helped to push things along. If there was anything I would do differently, I would have avoided going through his office to type up the board application. That ended up taking more time than if I had done it myself and I basically ended up redoing a lot of it because there were errors and many things had to be updated as the process went along and things changed. But other than that, I was glad to work with Robert.

Robert’s skills and knowledge of the real estate market, pricing, and timing of sale are superb. So are his design sense and knowledge of what will most appeal to buyers. He designed and supervised a cost-effective renovation that raised the value significantly. His stager, photographer and construction team are top notch, and Robert is always there to answer your questions or follow up and remind you to do something so the whole process gets done on time. Also, Wohlfarth has a great, collaborative team with many years of experience. I came away feeling they, as well as Robert, really did right by me.

Robert was really proactive and responsive. This was my first home purchase and he was so patient with me, my ignorance and my billion questions. The purchase was drawn out due to an inefficient, unresponsive and disorganized management company as well as other delays. We ended up having to close while I was out of the country, which caused a few things to slip through the cracks (e.g., not even a virtual walk through, seller took some of the fixtures that were supposed to stay and left some standing closets that I expected him to take). Even though none of these things could be remedied, I appreciated that Robert tried.

My experience with Robert as my agent was excellent and I would recommend him to anyone looking for someone who has their best interests in mind. He was very responsive and communications with him were always very quick which to me, not living in the US, was important. He took care of everything from repairs, cleaning, staging and then in the final stages of the sale was always on top of everything. Being an absent seller can be very nerve-racking but I always felt I was in very good hands with Robert. I honestly don’t know how I would have sold the apartment without him.

When I started looking for a home, picking an agent wasn’t easy. It was the single biggest financial decision I’ve ever made and I was wary of agents pushing properties on me and swaying my decision. Using Robert as my agent, was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Most importantly, Robert is unfailingly honest and trustworthy. In a business filled with puffery, Robert will give you his true opinion even if it means losing a deal. I can’t tell you how rare and valuable that is. He showed me things I never would have appreciated and steered me away from pitfalls. This means that you can rely on his thoughts and trust his judgment. Robert will give you the advice you need even if it’s not the advice you want to hear. That’s even more important than I realized going in.

Secondly, Robert is patient….and I mean really patient. I needed that and you might too. My search lasted 5 months, but my purchase was drawn out over a two year renovation. Robert hung in for the duration. He went well beyond anything I would expect from a real estate agent. I sincerely believe that I would have lost the deal, if a Robert hadn’t intervened at key moments.

Thirdly, Robert is supremely knowledgeable. He has a reputation among other agents for gauging value and prices well. I asked another agent about him once and she said “no one knows prices on the Upper West Side better than Robert.” It’s true. He has deep expertise which is uncommon to say the least.

Finally, Robert is a mensch. Robert took the time to figure out what I was looking for and helped me find exactly the right fit. Through my extended purchase process, we became friends and now we chat about more than just real estate.

My home buying is done, but if yours is just beginning, please call Robert. Buying a home in New York can be daunting in every respect and you need someone to help guide you through it. You won’t find a better agent anywhere. Period. Thanks for reading.

Robert acted as our buyer’s agent for the property we bought on the Upper West Side.  We were moving from NJ and had subpar experience with a couple of other buyer’s agents.  As a result, we were reluctant to get involved with yet another buyer’s agent.  However, Robert quickly won us over with his impressive knowledge of the local market, pros and cons of specific properties and his thoroughness. We bought a renovated sponsor unit and Robert helped us maneuver through all aspects of getting upgrades, negotiating the best deal and even picking up fixtures from the showroom.   Robert is patient, deeply knowledgeable, detail oriented and familiar with all aspects of the complicated NYC real estate market.  We highly recommend him.

We had an excellent experience with Robert and his entire team.  Not only did they get our property sold in a timely manner for full value, but we were selling long distance so Robert had to go above and beyond including handling cleaning, staging, moving, and more.  His presence at the closing enabled the transaction to be brought to a smooth close in spite of some last minute issues with the coop.

He promptly returned all phone calls and emails, making communication very easy.  I would recommend Robert and the entire Wohlfarth team.

After a disappointing experience with another broker, we listed the apartment with Wohlfarth and are very pleased with the result. Rick and Robert worked diligently and kept us informed at all times. Their marketing of the apartment ensured that it received the maximum possible exposure. Despite a slowing of the market, they were able to negotiate a sale price close to the asking, and made sure the buyers were well qualified. I would be delighted to work with them again.

Marlene Saferstein, Manhattan

From staging to pricing strategy to exposure, Rick and Robert knew how to generate maximum interest, even though the apartment needed a complete renovation. I would never have imagined that it would achieve such a record high price.

We are so grateful for everything you did to help ensure a smooth and successful sale of our apartment. We were impressed with your ability to analyze and read the market with such precision, to negotiate with such ease, and to deliver results. But beyond all, what we valued most was your consistent straightforward and honest approach.

Thank you for all of your work on the deal – and also for “holding our hands” throughout the process. We would confidently recommend you to anyone we know looking for a broker.

Robert is a true professional and very easy to work with. He knows Manhattan apartments and is always available and responsive.

Arlene Harris, Esq., Kaye, Scholer LLP

As an attorney dealing with estate work, I have had several instances working with Robert Rems, and his firm, Wohlfarth & Associates. At each time I have found a remarkable combination of thorough knowledge of the market, great realism in suggesting a price and a true ‘customer service’ approach in seeing the deal through to the end. Robert made sure he had an exceptionally detailed knowledge of the neighborhoods involved and was always willing to spend the time necessary to educate my clients as to the best way forward not just to secure the highest price, but to establish a price that ensured the property sold without undue delay. He was also extremely willing to handle all aspects of the transaction: his staging of the apartments was highly tasteful and acute in bringing their visual strengths to the fore. The publicity material he and the firm produced were similarly strategic, persuasive as to the high points without exaggeration. And he was available and involved in ensuring the apartments were properly cleared before Closing, and last minute details quickly taken care of.

I could only highly recommend the firm, and Robert himself.

John V. N Philip, Esq.

Thank you again for all of your help as I went through the purchasing process at 61 Jane Street.  You were fantastic!  If I am ever in need of a broker, or asked for a recommendation in the future, you’ll be the first person on my list!

L. B., Manhattan

Our family’s New York apartment had given my late husband some of his happiest moments and our happiest memories. But it was time to sell, and Robert’s pricing strategy and staging of the apartment assured us of enthusiastic bidding far above the asking price. The superb marketing and results gave my family something more than just the memories to cherish.

V. Gershenson, Mexico City

Robert went above and beyond what I was expecting from a broker. He not only handled the sale of the apartment, he planned, designed and supervised a cost-effective renovation and staging (at no charge) that made the apartment very desirable and helped us realize a record high price and a fast sale. His marketing program, including professional photography and video, along with outreach to other brokers and skilled negotiating, resulted in maximum exposure and multiple bids. In addition, he was very responsive and a pleasure to work with.
